Cambridge Assessment English Preparation Center

Learning English is more than just making the grade. It’s about opening doors for  young people so that they can experience a lifetime of opportunities as international-minded, citizens of the world.  This is why Da Vinci International School and Cambridge Assessment English recently joined forces to establish the first Cambridge Assessment English Preparation Center in Flanders.

“We aim to be a springboard propelling our students into the world as tolerant, open-minded, empathetic, skilled and functional members of society”, explains Ian Stanley, Da Vinci’s Head of School. “At a time when students more than ever need a toolbox of transferable skills that will help them navigate a future in an ever-changing world, we believe that being a Cambridge Assessment English Preparation Center will help us open many doors to many futures.”

The first batch of students were examined at Da Vinci in June 2019, having followed the Cambridge English programme over the course of the school year.

“Exams are always daunting because of their formal nature, but the Cambridge English examiners quickly put the children at ease, establishing a great rapport with them,” Ian recalls. “This is a crucial ingredient for helping children do their best - and that’s exactly what they did! We’re very proud of the progress that all our children have made through the Cambridge English programme, and receiving a 100% pass rate in our first year is testament to the combined enthusiasm and hard work of the children and our EAL specialists.”

Da Vinci has also decided to open its own doors to the Antwerp community, welcoming students from local schools to join its English programme.

“Our school vision is about opening hearts, minds and doors to the future,” explains Ian. “We aim to live up to this in tangible ways, which is why we decided to open our own doors to the local community, sharing our knowledge and experience and at the same time, lowering the threshold for learning English.”

Da Vinci International School is located in the heart of Antwerp with more than 40 nationalities aged 2.5 years to 19 years.
