In Lower School, students continue to develop their core skills of reading, writing and mathematics, complemented by a structured wider curriculum that challenges and motivates them to develop a keen interest in the world around them.

Our small classes and excellent facilities ensure high academic results. Within a warm and supportive environment, we motivate children to achieve their best at all times, both academically and personally.

Art, drama, music and sports together with a wide range of extra-curricular activities contribute to every student achieving success and developing confidence in their own abilities.

Our Lower School students follow the Cambridge Primary Curriculum for Mathematics and English. This curriculum is an international education programme for young learners aged 5 to 11 years and is used in primary schools around the world. It develops young learners who are confident, responsible, reflective, innovative and engaged.

At DVIS we place a strong emphasis on language learning. From Year 1, both Dutch and French are taught at both standard and higher level through creative and playful weekly taster lessons.

The remaining subjects (Art and Design, Drama, Geography, History, Information Communication Technology, Music, Physical Education and Science) follow the International Primary Curriculum (IPC). The IPC is a comprehensive, thematic, creative curriculum for 5-12 year olds, with a clear process of learning and with specific learning goals for every subject, for international mindedness and for personal learning.

Both formative and summative assessments of knowledge, skills and understanding are carried out regularly throughout the school year. Parents are kept up to date about their child’s progress through end of semester reports as well as parent-teacher meetings, but our teachers are also always available for a quick chat before or after school.
